Learning about the amazing science of pain

Dr Joshua Pate is the author of Zoe and Zak’s Pain Hacks, a new series of children’s books to help children learn about the incredible and mysterious science of pain.

Pain is complex and can be difficult to talk about, especially persistent pain – pain that has persisted for longer than expected. Zoe and Zak’s Pain Hacks is a series of five books designed to help children learn and talk about pain with their family, friends, teachers, and health professionals. The first four books each address one key target concept, the fifth book brings these learning outcomes together with an empowering action plan.

Dr Pate will introduce the series of books and explore why the series has been written. Josh will share the latest research in paediatric chronic pain educational research, and there will be time for a Q&A for families to ask questions.

Our presenter: Dr. Joshua Pate is a senior lecturer in physiotherapy at UTS, and he also is the author of Zoe and Zak’s Pain Hacks. Josh is a passionate pain scientist and energetic educator. His goal is to make pain science education accessible to everyone and reduce the overall burden of chronic pain.
